COBERG has completed the project “Zakup specjalistycznych urządzeń do obróbki metalu w celu wprowadzenia nowego produktu do oferty firmy” (purchase of specialist metalworking equipment to introduce a new product to the company’s range). The key information and results are presented below.

The project was co-funded under European Funds for Silesia 2021–2027 (Just Transition Fund), Priority FESL.10.00 — European Funds for Transition, Action FESL.10.03 — Support for SMEs for Transition.

Project title

“Zakup specjalistycznych urządzeń do obróbki metalu w celu wprowadzenia nowego produktu do oferty firmy” (purchase of specialist metalworking equipment to introduce a new product to the company’s range).

Tasks and activities

The project equipped the company with key fixed assets forming an integrated production process for the new product. The investment included the purchase and commissioning of:

• a 4-axis vertical machining centre,
• a conventional lathe,
• a test station with a dynamometer,
• a photovoltaic installation supplying renewable energy for production at the facility.

The equipment enabled production of a new product: drive axles comprising three bevel gearboxes for manure spreaders.

The project also introduced circular economy measures: the lathe is used to process leftover steel bars from production for reuse in manufacturing.

Target group

The results primarily serve the agricultural machinery and equipment market, including:

• manufacturers and integrators of agricultural machinery and components,
• distributors, agricultural machinery service providers and repair workshops,
• farms and operators of manure spreaders as end users,
• domestic and international customers who value component consistency, quality and durability, as well as reliable supply supported by reduced dependence on external mould suppliers.

Project objective

The objective was to expand the company’s range with products it had not previously manufactured, through the purchase of specialist metalworking equipment and the launch of drive axle production using bevel gearboxes. The project also covered:

• material reuse and waste reduction, particularly for leftover steel bars,
• renewable energy for production from the photovoltaic installation,
• new jobs needed to operate the purchased machines.

Project results

The project delivered development and environmental benefits, including:

• one new product in the range — drive axles with bevel gearboxes for manure spreaders — supporting production diversification and greater competitiveness,
• greater manufacturing independence and flexibility, including the ability to manufacture components and moulds in-house using the machining centre,
• circular economy measures: leftover steel bars and shafts are machined again on the purchased lathe and reused in production. The project documentation assumed approximately 10 tonnes of this waste per year and the potential to reuse approximately 70% of that quantity,
• improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions through the use of photovoltaic energy,
• two new jobs: a lathe operator and a milling machine operator.
